Cylinder - How to Find the Volume
Cylinder - How to Find the Volume - Video
Example 1
Example 1:
Let's find the volume of a cylinder. We need to use the volume formula ==> V = π * r2 * h. Let's take a look at the first part the formula π * r2 that is the area formula of circle ==> A = π * r2. 4 cm represents that the radius so the area of the circle is 16π cm2.
Now let's find the volume by substituting the radius, 4 cm, and the height, 1 cm.
V = π * r2 * h
π * 42 * 1 We substitute the radius and the height.
π * 16 * 1 We square the radius, 4.
π * 16 We multiply 16 and the height, 1.
16π cm3 We add the units.
So our volume is 16π cm3.
Example 1 continued:
Cylinders are circles stacked on top of each other. In the above photos, we add another circle on top with the same dimensions as our original question with a radius of 4 cm and a height of 1 cm. Our volume increased to 32π cm3. We add another and the volume increases to 48π cm3.
Example 1 continued:
Cylinders are circles stacked on top of each other. In the above photos, we add another circle on top with the same dimensions as our original question with a radius of 4 cm and a height of 1 cm. Our volume increased to 64π cm3. We add another and the volume increases to 80π cm3.
Example 2
Example 2:
Let's find the volume of a cylinder. We need to use the volume formula ==> V = π * r2 * h. Let's take a look at the first part the formula π * r2 that is the area formula of circle ==> A = π * r2. 8 cm represents that the radius so the area of the circle is 64π cm2.
Now let's find the volume by substituting the radius, 4 cm, and the height, 10 cm.
V = π * r2 * h
π * 82 * 10 We substitute the radius and the height.
π * 64 * 10 We square the radius, 8.
π * 640 We multiply 64 and the height, 10.
640π cm3 We add the units.
So our volume is 640π cm3.
