Perimeter Scaling Up
Perimeter - How it Works - Video
Example 1
Example 1:
To find the perimeter of a figure that has been scaled is to label each square so it is easier to see what is happening. Since each square has a length of 2 cm, that is what we see in the picture on the left.
Now, we add each side to find the length and wide of the figure, 4 cm, 6 cm, 4 cm, 6 cm, and 4 cm. Since we know each side length, we add, 4 + 6 + 4 + 6 = 20 cm, which is the perimeter of the figure.
Example 2
Example 2:
To find the perimeter of a figure that has been scaled is to label each square so it is easier to see what is happening. Since each square has a length of 2 cm, that is what we see in the picture on the left.
Now, we add each side to find the length and wide of the figure, 8 cm, 6 cm, 8 cm, 6 cm, and 4 cm. Since we know each side length, we add, 8 + 6 + 8 + 6 = 28 cm, which is the perimeter of the figure.
Example 3
Example 3:
To find the perimeter of a figure that has been scaled is to label each square so it is easier to see what is happening. Since each square has a length of 3 cm, that is what we see in the picture on the left.
Now, we add each side to find the length and wide of the figure, 12 cm, 9 cm, 12 cm, 9 cm, and 12 cm. Since we know each side length, we add, 12 + 9 + 12 + 9 = 42 cm, which is the perimeter of the figure.
